Study Abroad in Berlin

STUDY ABROAD //

Berlin Opera Academy's Study Abroad track invites university students to spend one or two semesters in Berlin as part of our year-round Opera School. Whether you join for a single semester or a full study-abroad year, you train alongside BOA's core cohort in the same immersive program — with dedicated support to coordinate academic credit with your home institution.

Study Abroad at BERLIN OPERA ACADEMY

2026 - 2027 Study Abroad // Application Deadline September 1

Study abroad participants enroll directly in BOA Opera School — our rigorous, full-time year-round program in Berlin. We work collaboratively with your university's study abroad office and faculty to align coursework, performance requirements, and documentation so your semester or year abroad can count toward your degree. For singers especially, this is a level-up opportunity: you are cast in a fully staged operatic production with orchestra, build substantial performance credits for your resume, and make dramatically faster progress in German through daily classes and real-life immersion than is possible on campus at home.

PROGRAM INCLUDES

  • Semester or full academic year options
  • Enrollment in BOA's year-round Opera School curriculum
  • Collaborative credit coordination with your home university
  • Cast in a role in a full operatic production
  • Rehearse and perform with professional orchestra
  • Build performance credits for your artistic resume
  • Daily intensive German language classes
  • Full cultural immersion while living in Berlin
  • Accelerated language growth beyond classroom study at home

A PARTICULARLY STRONG FIT FOR SINGERS

While study abroad at BOA is open to motivated university students across disciplines, singers gain an especially rare combination of benefits. Rather than observing from the sidelines, you step into the rehearsal room, learn repertoire in context, and perform a role on stage — experience that distinguishes your resume and prepares you for auditions in Germany and beyond. At the same time, the intensity of daily German study combined with living and working in Berlin creates a fast-track language environment that classroom study alone cannot replicate. For many singers, a BOA study abroad semester becomes both a performance breakthrough and a linguistic turning point.

A typical study abroad day:

9:00 - 12:00

Weekly Module Coursework: Vocal Masterclass, Stagecraft, Audition Training, Self-Promotion

12:00 - 13:00

Weekly Korrepetition / Singing Lesson

14:30 - 17:30

Daily Intensive German Language Class

19:00 - 21:00

Opera Rehearsals, as called

Each semester culminates in a fully staged operatic performance, along with career seminars, recording sessions, and industry panel opportunities — the same outcomes as our year-round Opera School cohort.
